Some of the greatest dive sites around the world include wreck dives. For those seeking adventure and mystery, as well as the historical significance, a wreck dive can be extremely rewarding. Conjuring up images of sunken galleons and exploring ships sunk in battle. There are thousands of wrecks around the world, but to be able to explore them then divers must become trained in wreck exploration. The first step of this is the PADI Wreck Diver Specialty.
Over 2 days and four dives, you will learn the basic techniques for wreck exploration, including; navigation, mapping the wreck checking for entry and exit points and hazards, learning about reel and torch use, and finally wreck penetration if you desire. You will also learn specific details about the wreck and how to research wrecks before you dive them to know the history of the wreck you are diving.
The PADI Wreck specialty is conducted in Phuket on either the sunken car ferry The King Cruiser or on one of the wrecks sunk off the island of Racha Yai. Your instructor will run you through the techniques of wreck diving as well as give you a brief about local conditions and how to dive the wrecks safely. By the end of the course you have taken that first step towards becoming an underwater explorer.
