What is an IDC Staff Instructor?

This is it guys .. taking your teaching abilities to the next level and becoming involved in the PADI Instructor Development process !!

PADI IDC Staff Instructors are qualified to assist the PADI Course Director in conducting the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) and independently certify PADI Assistant Instructors.

On a PADI IDC the IDC Staff Instructor can be a key member of the team, giving class presentations and evaluating confined and open water candidate presentations. The role of an IDC Staff Instructor is active, crucial and rewarding. It is a great feeling when you see your successful candidates emerge successful from an IE. Become a part of the development of new PADI Instructors.

The IDC Staff instructor’s duties on the IDC include:

• Presenting IDC Curriculum presentations under the supervision of a PADI Course Director.

• Grading candidate presentations and providing feedback.

• Grading candidate exams and providing feedback.

• Demonstrating with the Course Director role model presentations both in the water and classroom.

• Providing the candidates with coaching and support during the IDC.

Course Structure

The course can be taken in two different ways, Option A and Option B. On both options the candidate must give presentations with passing scores in confined water and knowledge development as well as score highly on the Divemaster skills circuit. IDC Staff instructor trainees will also practice IDC grading, first with PADI videos, and then trying to score closely to the Course Director’s grading of the IDC candidates.

Option A is where the candidates staff a full IDC as part of their course. This gives you hands on experience of working with genuine IDC candidates and the structure of an IDC course as well as the ability to see a PADI Course Director conduct the course. This version of course we find gives the best experience of an IDC for the candidate.

Option B provides a simulated IDC with simulated presentations for the candidates, without auditing an IDC. Obviously this is a shorter option although we do encourage you to audit a full IDC as soon as possible afterwards to gain the hands on experience before teaching your own Assistant Instructor courses.
