Scenario: You are on a dive and you suddenly spot a turtle moving through the water. You want to follow it and get a picture. So you begin to swim after it until you suddenly notice that the turtle has swum away deeper than you are qualified to go. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to follow that turtle by extending your depth range further? There is also certain marine life that prefers to live that little bit deeper, as well as other underwater attractions such as the King Cruiser wreck, that lies between Phuket and Ko Phi Phi at a depth beyond the limits of entry-level divers.
The PADI Deep Diver course teaches you about the changes in the environment, pressure factors, air consumption, and light changes when you dive to depth. On the two day course which is conducted over four open water dives, including a dive to 40 meters if possible, you will perform tasks at depth to demonstrate the effects of nitrogen narcosis, be shown pressure changes at depth, and also see how your air consumption and diver behaviour are when you go that little bit deeper. You will also be required to make a simulated emergency decompression stop as your PADI instructor teaches you the procedures to follow in the event of overstepping the RDP limits.
