Are you ready for a life changing experience with the PADI Rebreather Course?

The PADI Rebreather Course is your “entry level” PADI Closed Circuit Rebreather (CCR) Course. Consequently this is the course that will open the incredible world of Rebreather Diving to you! Be prepared for no more bubbles, being much closer to marine life, 3 hours no-decompression dives, the list goes on and on. It is the ultimate way to dive Phuket.

During the Rebreather Course you will learn how Closed Circuit (CCR) and Semi-closed Circuit Rebreathers (SCR) work. The PADI Rebreather Manual is "generic", in that it covers the various features that all Rebreathers share. The Rebreather manual also explains the skills you will be learning, why you need to know them, and also some of the basic “Do's and Don'ts” of rebreather diving.

With Indepth you will be learning how to dive the Poseidon Se7en or MKVI Rebreather. One of the most advanced and easy to use Rebreathers available!

PADI Rebreather: Are you ready for a life changing experience?

If so then The PADI Rebreather Course on the Poseidon MKVI / Se7en Rebreather will do that for you! Or at least it did for us ...

You start your Rebreather Course by reading the PADI Rebreather student manual, and as usual filling out the Knowledge Reviews at the end of each Chapter. In addition there is also a short DVD to watch which comes in your PADI Rebreather pack. In fact we always have these in stock and can mail them to you abroad before you come to Phuket if needed.

The PADI Rebreather manual is in the usual PADI format that you would expect. Therefore it explains clearly how Rebreathers (both Closed and Semi-Closed) work and various things you need to know when diving rebreathers. Please note that manual is "generic" and consequently it is used for every PADI Rebreather Course, irrespective of the unit that you are learning to dive.

The second half of your Independent study is to download the Poseidon Se7en / MKVI User Manual. Please read through this in great detail because this is as important as the PADI Rebreather manual if not more important!

The reason for this is that the Poseidon Se7en / MKVI Closed Circuit Rebreathers are unique in many ways. Because of this, along with the Rebreather Knowledge Reviews, you MUST study the Poseidon Rebreather User Manual. It is essential to understand how what you have read in the Rebreather student manual actually applies to the Poseidon Rebreather units. This is particularly important as these are the rebreathers you will be learning how to dive on with us here on Phuket.

PADI Rebreather Course Schedule

Day One: First of all we start off class with an indepth look at all your Knowledge Reviews. We will focus on how each question / answer relates to rebreathers in general and specifically the Poseidon Rebreathers. We usually spend the best part of the day on this therefore we may or may not assemble your unit on Day One.

Day Two: we will be heading to the 5m deep pool for a half a day. In addition if we have not yet set up the units we will then set them up first thing before we head off to the pool.

The pool we use is 5m deep and therefore absolutely perfect for Rebreather training dives!

Rebreather Diver Skills

Some of the Rebreather skills you will learn in the pool include:

  • Switching from Open to Closed Circuit Underwater
  • Various Bail-Out procedures
  • Rebreather Descents and Ascents
  • Flooded loop procedures
  • Alternate Air Source use with another Rebreather Diver
  • Monitoring your heads up display
  • Deploying an SMB

And everyone’s favourite:

  • Buoyancy control using a Poseidon CCR Rebreather!

Finally the Open Water Training Dives

We then head out on the dive boat for the next two days of open water dives. The PADI Rebreather Diver Course also has FIVE open water training dives. However as we are so nice and we love diving our Poseidon Rebreather so much, we actually give you SIX dives. This allows us one extra fun dive therefore one where no skills need to be performed. As a result it's just a dive to give you some extra fun with your Indepth rebreather Instructor.

You are able to easily do 3 hour dives on your Poseidon Rebreather. During your PADI Rebreather Course with us we will be limiting all open water dives to a maximum of 1 hour. This is due to boat logistics. However we will be doing three dives a day so we will still be doing 3 hours diving per day.

On the Open Water Dives there is nothing really new for you to learn. You will be continuing with the same Rebreather skills that you learnt on your pool dives. These exercises mostly deal with rebreather emergency management, along with working on your buoyancy. Most of all this is something which you are going to find very, very strange to start with. If anything the more hours you have on and open circuit, the "more interesting" the rebreather experience,

Why is buoyancy difficult on a Rebreather?

Very simply because it IS a Closed Circuit Rebreather System and as such no gas leaves “the loop” when you breathe in or out. Yes you guessed it. You do not go up and down at all! And yes you will probably find it does take a few hours of diving the unit before you get used to it. Consequently it's like learning to dive all over again.

After the PADI Rebreather Course you will be qualified to dive on the Poseidon Se7en / MKVI Closed Circuit Rebreather to a maximum depth of 18m!

Divers will find that you can also dive on a rebreather for most of your PADI courses that you now want to take. Also if you are a PADI Instructor, then you will be able to teach a lot of different PADI courses while diving on your Rebreather. To be precise you can teach all PADI courses except for Open Water, DSD and IDC.

CONGRATULATIONS your new life has just begun ...

You can now dive a Poseidon Se7en or MKVI Rebreather to 18m!

The next thing are almost bound to want to do is to dive deeper than 18m. We bet you are going to want to go to 20-30m to dive those wrecks and favourite reefs, especially if the dive’s logistics allow you to do 3 hour dives!

The PADI Advanced Rebreather Course introduces you to the “Off-board” Bail-Out Cylinder. This is simply an extra tank you carry with you clipped onto your left side. We take this with us just in case there is a problem with the Rebreather. If there was then you would need to "Bail Out." For example if when diving your favorite dive site you were at 26m then you might not have enough on-board gas to get you to the surface. In this case you would close the rebreather mouthpiece and switch to this completely redundant gas supply. Because we use normal air as our gas for our off-boards as this gas can be breathed without fear of CNS Toxicity at the deepest depth we will be diving to.

We usually ONLY teach the PADI Rebreather and Advanced Rebreather Course Combo. This is because it integrates both courses into one simply program. None of the knowledge or skills are missed out it. The PADI Rebreather Combo program simply streamlines the 2 courses and helps avoid unnecessary repetition. And is MUCH cheaper than taking both courses separately!
