Ko Haa Lagoon is one of Thailand's best Night Dives

Koh Haa Lagoon: another gem of the South Andaman Sea

Ko Haa Lagoon is located in the middle of the Koh Haa group of Islands and is surrounded by a pair of limestone pinnacles (Islands Number 2 & 4). When diving Ko Haa you would usually dive between the two limestone pinnacles.

There is normally very little current here, and the lagoon itself is shallow. However if there is, it runs from North to South (or vice versa). Hence if you venture too far outside the bay the current can be much stronger so be aware, especially on night dives. For regular customers who dive Phuket, a night dive here can be very nice change from Kata Beach House Reef.

This is usually dived as a night dive site as it is one of the best Night Dives in Thailand. In addition to being a highlight of any Ko Haa dive trip.

Ko Haa Lagoon: the best Ko Haa Night Dive

To start the dive, we usually enter the water between the 2 limestone pinnacles where the depth is around 10-15m. From there the sand line is around 20m where there are also some boulders and hard corals.

There are many cracks and crevices where you can find large numbers of Shrimps and Crabs, even if you are diving this during the day. However, Ko Haa Lagoon conditions are perfect for Night Diving with shallow depths, no current and lots and lots to see at night.

Lobsters can also be spotted here (usually the Painted Spiny Lobster) and there are some large Sea Fans where you can spot Ornate Ghost Pipefish and Cowries. Additionally, there are large fields of Sea Anemones and beautiful orange Cup Corals. These are pretty cool and almost ‘Glow in Dark” during night dives when the cup corals open up to catch their prey. Take your time as there can make awesome photos.

Have you done a Night Dive before?

If you have not yet completed the Night Adventure Dive from the PADI Advanced Open Water Course, then this is the place to do it. And if you are on a South Andaman Sea Liveaboard you are in for a treat. In addition, if you find you like Night Diving, which we think you probably will. Then this is the perfect opportunity to take your PADI Night Diver Specialty Course.

Other marine life you can expect to see are Lion fish, Scorpion Fish, Giant Morays and Squid all of which love to come out at night as well and Harlequin Shrimp are spotted regularly on this scuba diving dive site.

REMEMBER: It is important to swim out into the deeper water at the end of the dive for the dive boat to pick you up safely. Koh Haa is mid ocean and the boat cannot come in too close to the rocks!
