Time for some great underwater photos with the PADI Underwater Photo Course!

The PADI Underwater Photo Course is actually called The PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty Diver Course. And the great news is, the course is open to both Scuba Divers and non-divers alike.

The Digital Underwater Photographer Course is split into two-parts. We start with Digital Underwater Photographer Level 1 which teaches you the basics of cameras and taking underwater photos. And then Level 2, which moves into more specialized photos. In addition, it also looks at uploading and editing your photos.

PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Level 1 helps student divers in achieving good results simply and easily, even if they’ve never used a digital camera before. Course students learn what equipment they need to use to be able to take cool underwater photos. And they also learn how to prepare the underwater photo system along with some basic underwater photo techniques. All this while diving in an environmentally friendly manner.

PADI Underwater Photo Course Levels 1 and 2

The PADI Underwater Photo Course Level 1 is open to snorkelers and certified divers and is a great way to start.

Then PADI Underwater Photo Course Level 2 expands on what was taught in Level 1 and as a result, you will now learn how to make your photos even better. We will show how to white balance the camera to account for light absorption. This is a major step in improving a lot of photos. In fact you will probably notice the difference right away. Next we have adjusting shooting angles to get the maximum effect. And another all time favourite, how to take up-close macro pictures.

On the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Course we can also introduce you to strobes depending on the camera set up. The Level 2 Course also looks at file formats, resolution settings and making images lighter or darker. Another thing will be how to get "good colour". This is not always as simple as people think. And finally a good look at composing and downloading photographs and editing them.

Some divers already have their own cameras and want to improve their skills. Whereas others are new to diving and / or taking underwater photos. We can provide you with a camera system as needed. As we mentioned most smart phones have housing and so forth. And there is an almost unlimited amount of Apps and software available.

PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Course Level 2 is also open to snorkelers and certified divers.

The Underwater Digital Photography Revolution

Certainly the move towards digital technology over the past 15+ years has revolutionized underwater photography. Now it is possible for divers to point and shoot without worrying how much film they are wasting. Memory card are now cheap and can carry thousands of images. Another awesome thing is that you can immediately look at the photo you have just taken. This means you can receive feedback from your PADI instructor underwater during the dive. How cool is that! No more waiting for the film to be developed.

The Phuket dive sites are almost all excellent for underwater photography. We have the dive sites around Racha Noi / Yai and Phi Phi. In addition to the Phangna Marine Sanctuary dive sites. These dive sites include the King Cruiser, Anemone Reef and Shark Point. These all offer staggering amounts of marine life and are excellent for The PADI Underwater Photo Course no matter what level you are.

The PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Course is also a great course to take before or during a Liveaboard Safari to the Similan Islands. This is your chance of getting your Facebook Manta Ray or Whale Shark selfie ...

Now you are better at taking great underwater photos, where to dive is the question?

There are many dive sites which just begging to be photographed. Hopefully you have already dived some of these while you were taking your PADI Underwater Photo Course. But what other photographic aquatic adventures await you?

Underwater Wrecks can make a stunning background to photos. Especially those in clear blue water or with a strobe when true colors appear. That sullen Wreck which was all green and grey is now bright yellow, red and orange! And that is not even mentioning the marine life which is attracted to underwater wrecks. The King Cruiser in particular is famous for the sheer amount of fish on it.

Finding out more about the Fish you are looking at and how the Coral Reef actually functions can be a fascinating journey for anyone. Now you can photograph your way through the PADI Fish ID or Underwater Naturalist Courses.

And for those who want to stay down forever and get really, really, really close to the fish in silence and with no bubbles. The Poseidon Rebreather and Advanced Rebreather Courses are a MUST!
